Chapter Eleven

I spent the night dreaming of the guy with amber eyes only to wake up alone and even more wanting. The only thing to get me out of bed was the promise of a hot shower. I dragged myself through the shower and into my uniform before putting my purple hair up into a messy bun. With the onslaught of studying and schoolwork, I barely had enough energy to fix my hair much less worry about makeup. Besides, the only person I’d been interested in, well, it seemed the dragon assholes had successfully run him off despite his confident demeanor.

My wolf yearned for him already, less than twenty-four hours later.

Damned animal.

Emily joined me for breakfast, and I may or may not have pouted knowing this was one of the days we didn’t share the same lunch period. By the time my break did come around, I was starving and had gotten a stern look from one of the teachers when I’d tried to stuff an Oreo in my mouth all stealth-like. My order had arrived the day before, which I’d have known if I hadn’t been running in forbidden fields and hiding in my room.

Lycan Academy would’ve let me nibble a little.

Dragon bastards.

I picked up two chicken salad sandwiches made on croissants and grabbed one bag of fancy-ass chips from the line. I didn’t have the energy to wait for something hot, and that line was twice as long. You’d think they would move faster since all of them could breathe fire. They should each take some raw meat and cook it themselves right at the table instead of making people like me wait.

Again—bastards.

I found a round table in the corner closest to the windows, one of few windows in the school, and chose the seat facing them so I could see all around. I inhaled the two sandwiches with the chips stuffed inside them and sighed, wishing for more food. Usually I would’ve eaten twice as much but didn’t feel like waiting in line.

“I noticed you didn’t get dessert. A girl as lovely as you should definitely have dessert.” A white oval dish filled to the brim with peach cobbler à la mode slid in front of me along with a cloth napkin and a spoon. I looked up and found myself staring into a pair of eyes the color of perfectly creamed coffee. I stammered for a response but came up empty.

He took the seat next to me, facing the windows as I searched for something to say. “Um, thank you…” I trailed off, hoping he would answer with his name. I needed to know this dude’s name.

Oh shit. My wolf likes this one, too.

“It’s Benji. Nice to meet you. I hear you like to be called AJ. Is that true?”

I nodded and reached for an extra spoon on my tray. “Here. Share with me? It’s too much after all I ate.”

I was such a liar. But it would be nice to have some company. My wolf and I wanted him near.
